Black eyed girl, fondly remembered,
The darkness that you have gifted my heart
I’ve treasured among all the brighter things;
In darkest forests one finds the rarest things:
The sweetest of fruits and the coolest streams,
The most impossible of elfin creatures;
The darkness you’ve given me was a gift
And though hope was a flame that failed,
The light of your kindness still burns brightly;
If you have given me these dark passages
You’ve also gifted this love for darkness,
The eyes that see into the heart of night;
I was once blinded by the great lights.
Only in this dark night I notice now
The bright stars and how they shine on me.
