The RationalAll my life I have treasured
The honest doubt,
Questioned simple faith
Renounced easy beliefs.
Life was a book to be read
A pleasant start
And predictable end,
With no sequels.
But here, facing the mountains
Under the diamond skies
In the temples
Of Sal and Oak
Something new stirs in me,
Speaking to me
Of seamless infinity
And the eternal;
Unbidden, my tears come,
In the presence of something
Older than mountains
Stronger than my doubts.
