Possessions

You cannot own the stars,
The mountains were never yours,
You build mighty bridges
But the sea endures.

The daisy always bloomed,
The swallows flew before you came,
Cuckoos will sing long after
The world forgets your name.

Go marvel at constellations,
Stand under starlit skies,
Feel the silver world wake
See the full moon rise.

You cannot possess enough
If emptiness lives in your soul:
To own the world was never
Your wondrous journey’s goal.

The world will exist
Without a guest or two:
You are a part of this world
It never belonged to you.
